Brine Shrimp

I use 6 x 2 litre empty still water bottles with their bases removed. These fit perfectly with the hatchery kits available from TA Aquaculture UK.

My fish room is maintained at 78°f.  We fill the bottles 2/3 full with water that has been prepared to room temperature. Holding approximately 1.5 litres in each. We add to this 1.5 tablespoons of cooking salt, ¼ Epsom salt, ¼ Baking Soda and one scoop full of Brine Shrimp Eggs.

The eggs hatch in approximately 24 – 36 hours. I am very pleased with the results so far and use at least 2 bottles each day.

The brine shrimp are fed daily, directly after the dry feed. I continue to feed the fry until approximately 3 – 4 months of age. I also feed the adult fish on any surplus shrimp.

I was attempting to Bio-encapsulate Nauplii. I would not say I have successfully mastered the best way to achieve this as I feed all shrimp as soon as they are available.

If you attempt to Bio-encapsulate the Nauplii. It is important to remember that baby shrimp are born without a mouth and live on a Yoke sac for a further 18-20 hours. It is at this point that one would attempt to gut load the shrimp prior to feeding your Guppies.
